What to Bring:
- A valid Passport with more than 6 months until
expiration. A pre-arranged visa is not required for
US Citizens to enter SA. A visa for Mozambique is
needed, but will be arranged by the tour company when you arrive in
Johannesberg.
- Your prescription and over the counter medicine(s). Prescription drugs
must be a drugstore container with your name of them. I strongly recommend
that you bring Immodium or other anti-diarrheal compounds.
- Toiletries.
- 2 towels. The Transkei resorts provide towels, but you will
need these in Mosambique
- Your riding gear. A large gearbag with all this inside is
best.
- Helmet. Helmet use is mandatory on the provided ATVs.
- Goggles (two pair, one dark lens, one clear)
- Camelpack. A water bag is essential on these rides. You
should have one anyway.
- Riding gloves (two pair)
- Riding boots. Please don't bring tennis shoes. You will
need the ankle support of real boots. I used standard MX boots and was glad
I had them.
- Riding pants (don't bring jeans. They will get wet on the
water crossings and be uncomfortable. Spring for a nylon or polyester pair.)
- 2 riding jerseys. Don't bring cotton jerseys, bring
polyester ones.
- up to 5 pair boot socks. Laundry services will be
available at the beach resorts.
- lightweight raingear. You may get the occasional shower
- body armor. There are technical sections that you can
choose to ride or bypass. I am glad I wore my body armor!
- Kidney belt. You will put in a lot of hours on the ATV. A
kidney belt can help. I didn't wear mine but I did bring it.
- Bug net. You may not need one at all, but if you do you
will be glad you have it. I got mine at
Cabelas. The flies don't bite but they can be annoying.
- Snorkeling gear (optional. You can snorkel off the beach in
the Transkei and Vilancoulos.)
- 2 pairs of shoes - comfortable walking shoes and beach
sandals.
- 2 pairs of shorts and t-shirts or polo shirts. You
will be in riding gear most days. this is to wear to the bar, dinner, the
beach and lounging.
- Underwear.
- Swimsuit.
- Suntan lotion.
- Cameras, film, batteries,
- Sleeping bag/ bedroll and pillow case.
- US$ for spending money and to buy the alcohol and sundries. US$8-00
will be enough to buy a round for the whole party. Softdrinks, bottled
water, and Beer will be supplied
while we are out in the bush.
- Baggage. What works best is a large gear bag that contains
all the stuff you need to ride and camp. A second bag can be managed but is a
nuisance in Mosambique. Pack as lightly as you can, it will be warm and
laundry is available. Nothing more formal than khaki shorts and a polo shirt
is needed.
- Ziplock bags. These are wonderful organizers for all your
little gear. I use the kind with zippers. I put all the cables for camera etc
into one. I use one for my toiletry gear.
- 240V chargers/adaptor plugs. If you check your charger(s)
(camera etc )you should see that
it accepts 50-240V 50-60HZ power. SA has 240V 50Hz power. Radio shack has the
adaptor you need. You can purchase one in SA in the Airport.
GSM Mobile phones work up to the Kruger National Park and in Vilancoulos. We have a satellite
phone with us in case of an emergency. Be sure to check with your cellular
provide to ensure you have international roaming allowed.
